Accepting payment outside of the MoocLab platform is a serious violation of MoocLabTerms of Service
All lessons with MoocLab students must be paid for through the MoocLab platform. Expectations of MoocLab tutors are clearly outlined here: Tutor Policies & Code of Conduct
Tutors who violate MoocLab Terms of Service will be removed from MoocLab.
If a student asks you to accept payment outside of the MoocLab system, then as a MoocLab tutor, you must decline a student's request. Let the student know that in order to book a lesson and send payment, they must do this through your MoocLab Tutor Resource Page.
In addition, you should let us know about these students by using our Contact Form. This way, we can be sure that you were not violating MoocLab policy.

Tutors that are found requesting payment, accepting payment, or taking students off of MoocLab will have their profiles removed from MoocLab and any payments due will be withheld.

- Payment Risk: Lessons outside of MoocLab have payment risk. Students may or may not follow through with promises to pay.
- Student Reputation: On MoocLab, students also have to maintain a reputation. Students that are found to be irresponsible are also removed from the system.
- Tutor Reputation Building: Tutors that teach off of the system do not receive the public feedback and social credit that is recorded on MoocLab This removes an important feedback loop for social verification of tutors.
- Privacy Risk: On MoocLab, you do not have to share any personal or private contact information with students. You can never be sure how someone else is going to use your personal contact information.
- Loss of Records: Lessons that are paid for on the MoocLab system are recorded. MoocLab will be able to find these records and help you if you need assistance.
- Lack of Support: In the event that a teaching session does not go as planned, there is no way for teachers and students to settle their issues. When the information is saved in the system, MoocLab support staff are able to mediate in dispute and disagreements between tutors and students.
