Courses Top 100 MOOCs 'Of All Time'

Class Central, an online course discovery and review site, has recently published a list of the top 100 online courses of all time based on over 60,000 user reviews. The list includes courses from 53 universities across 18 countries offered on the leading MOOC platforms, Coursera, edX, and FutureLearn.

MIT (US), the University of Sheffield (UK) and the University of Cape Town (South Africa) lead the way, each having 5 courses in the top 100, and Stanford University (US), the University of Michigan (US) and the University of Pennsylvania (US) all have 4 courses. The majority of the top-ranked courses are available on Coursera with 45 courses, followed by edX with 24 and FutureLearn with 17.

Although two of the top 10 courses are in Python programming, the rest cover very varied subjects ranging from natural sciences to personal development and health, and are provided by institutions based in all corners of the globe. The top 10 MOOCs of all time are:
  1. Introduction to the Python programming language - Rice University (US) via Coursera
  2. Mountains 101 - University of Alberta (Canada) via Coursera
  3. Learning How to Learn - University of California, San Diego (US) via Coursera
  4. Understanding Dementia - Offered directly by the University of Tasmania (Australia)
  5. Extinctions: Past and Present - University of Cape Town (South Africa) via FutureLearn
  6. Programming for Everybody (Getting Started with Python) - University of Michigan (US) via Coursera
  7. Understanding Multiple Sclerosis (MS) - Offered directly by the University of Tasmania (Australia)
  8. Aprender - Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (Mexico) via Coursera
  9. Six Sigma: Define and Measure - Technische Universität München (Germany) via edX
  10. Introduction to Complexity - Santa Fe Institute (US) via Santa Fe Institute Complexity Explorer
