We know that as a new tutor on MoocLab, it can be hard to find new students. It can be hard to demonstrate to students that you're a great teacher. Here, we'll share with you a few ways you can raise your profile on MoocLab.

And remember, once you get new students, following up and working with them to understand their needs and goals will help you keep students!

Tips on getting new students

Profile Page

  • Create a professional-looking profile - As students will be deciding whether to take a lesson with you based on your profile, it is very important for you to spend time optimizing your information. Good profiles should: Avoid spelling mistakes and have a high-quality profile picture that show you professionally and in your best light.
  • Set accurate Teaching Specialities - This will make it easier for the students to pick you out.
  • Write an effective Short Introduction in the "About You" section of your personal details - After your profile picture, this is the first thing students will see when searching for you. Include as much information about yourself, what kind of students you can help, and what your lessons will be like.
Tutor Resource Page
  • Again, keep this professional. You can include some of the same information that you have on your profile page.
  • If you set your own Terms & Conditions, make sure they remain reasonable so not to put students off.
  • Ensure you list any relevant qualifications that will make you stand out
  • (Especially for Professional Teachers) Write clear and detailed lesson descriptions - Be detailed and concrete so students know exactly what they are buying. Tell the students what they will learn. Many students don't know how to organize their time or what to focus on. When you schedule lessons, you help the student by giving them deadlines and a clear focus.
Feature your Resource
Tutors can have their resource featured at the top of the Online Tuition main page for a set duration. This is a great way to get noticed. There are two feature duration options:
  • 7 days - $10 USD
  • 14 days - $18 USD
Other Useful Tips
  • Ask for referrals from happy students - If the student is very happy with you as a teacher, they would probably love to tell their friends about you. Especially if they've just achieved an important goal or are finishing their lessons with you, let them know that if they are happy working with you, that you would be very glad if they would recommend you to others. Think of how you feel when you know of someone or something that you can confidently recommend to your friends.
  • Encourage your students to rate your lessons via your Tutor Resource Page - this is a great way to move up the rankings and make you stand out.
  • Be helpful and respectful.

You can also market yourself through other channels to find students.

Marketing yourself outside of MoocLab
Classifieds

Tutors can use classified services to post a short introduction to themselves, and then post a link to their Tutor Resource Page on MoocLab. Using your MoocLab profile can add credibility to your advertisement, just like adding a link to your Linkedin profile.
Social Media
Tutors can also get inquiries through social media such as Twitter, Facebook or LinkedIn. We recommend posting your MoocLab Tutor Resource Page link to your public profile on your social media profiles and encourage your friends & students to do the same!
Personal Blog
A personal blog is another potential location to link to your MoocLab profile. Again, your MoocLab Tutor Resource Page can act as a third-party system to show your teaching abilities, testimonials from previous students, and your teaching credentials.
