As from 26th May 2016, UK-based MOOC platform, FutureLearn, is offering programs of courses allowing students to earn academic credit, professional accreditation and other awards.
The FutureLearn programs are made up of short open online courses that enable you to learn flexibly and earn recognised awards from leading institutions around the world.
University credit is awarded on some programs, while others offer accredited Continuing Professional Development (CPD) or the opportunity to demonstrate a commitment to studying a topic in depth.
Awards are granted to students who complete all the courses in a chosen program; buy a Certificate of Achievement for each course, and, on some programs, pass a final assessment.
How it works
The program courses are offered in the same way as standard FutureLearn courses: you can enrol in each of the courses for free and opt to buy the Certificates of Achievement once you’ve completed them. To be eligible to buy a Certificate of Achievement for a course, you will need to complete 90% of each course and score an average of 70% or above on all tests within it.
On programs with a final assessment course, you are only required to pay for it once you have completed all of the courses in the program. If you join a single course that is part of a program, you can always join the program later if you wish.
Credits
The university credits awarded on some of the programs can represent a recognised award on their own, but they can also be a pathway into the degrees offered by the universities, and may also be recognised by other institutions.
Programs
FutureLearn currently have 16 programs open for enrolment.
