What are the measures that we use?
Number of Courses (Maximum score: 5.00 / Weight factor: 1)
The rating is based on the number of courses offered by the MOOC platform using the following criteria:
1 = less than 30 courses
2 = 30 to 49 courses
3 = 50 to 99 courses
4 = 100 to 500 courses
5 = more than 500 courses
Partner Institutions (Maximum score: 5.00 / Weight factor: 3)
The rating is based on the quality & standing of the partner institutions providing the courses using the following criteria:
1 = Very poor
2 = Poor
3 = OK
4 = Good
5 = Excellent
Course format (Maximum score: 5.00 / Weight factor: 1)
The rating is based on how well the courses are structured to facilitate learning using the following criteria:
1 = Very poor
2 = Poor
3 = OK
4 = Good
5 = Excellent
Materials (Maximum score: 5.00 / Weight factor: 2)
The rating is based on the quality of the materials used to deliver the courses, such as videos, tutorials, e-books etc using the following criteria:
1 = Very poor
2 = Poor
3 = OK
4 = Good
5 = Excellent
Instruction (Maximum score: 5.00 / Weight factor: 3)
The rating is based on the quality of the instruction provided (content & delivery) using the following criteria:
1 = Very poor
2 = Poor
3 = OK
4 = Good
5 = Excellent
Assessment (Maximum score: 5.00 / Weight factor: 1)
The rating is based on the provision & quality of quizzes, assignments & feedback using the following criteria:
1 = Very poor
2 = Poor
3 = OK
4 = Good
5 = Excellent
Accreditation (Maximum score: 5.00 / Weight factor: 2)
The rating is based on the awarding & recognition of course certificates/credits using the following criteria:
1 = None
2 = Progress Tracking
3 = Statement of Accomplishment
4 = Verified Certificate
5 = Credit
Social Tools & Features (Maximum score: 5.00 / Weight factor: 2)
The rating is based on the provision & quality of tools & features to facilitate social interaction with peers and staff using the following criteria:
1 = Very poor
2 = Poor
3 = OK
4 = Good
5 = Excellent
Interface Usability (Maximum score: 5.00 / Weight factor: 1)
The rating is based on the quality of the interface & ease of navigation around the website using the following criteria:
1 = Very poor
2 = Poor
3 = OK
4 = Good
5 = Excellent
Overall Rating
Each measure was weighted by a weight factor from 1 to 3.
The overall rating is determined by the weighted average of all the scores.
How were the scores determined?
The ratings were attributed based on information obtained from the MOOC platforms and/or user sentiment and feedback sourced from student course reviews, public discussion boards, blogs etc

The rating is based on how much detail the courses go into using the following criteria:
1 = Just skims the surface
2 = Overview
3 = Good Insight
4 = Detailed
5 = Very detailed
Materials (Maximum score: 5.00 / Weight factor: 4)
The rating is based on the quality of the materials used to deliver the course using the following criteria:
1 = Very poor
2 = Poor
3 = OK
4 = Good
5 = Excellent
Assessment (Maximum score: 5.00 / Weight factor: 3)
The rating is based on the provision & quality of quizzes, assignments & feedback using the following criteria:

Fun Factor (Maximum score: 5.00 / Weight factor: 2)
The rating is based on how entertaining/enjoyable the courses are using the following criteria:
1 = Dire
2 = Boring
3 = Average
4 = Good fun
5 = Great fun
Accreditation (Maximum score: 5.00 / Weight factor: 3)
The rating is based on the awarding & recognition of course certificates/credits using the following criteria:
1 = None
2 = Progress Tracking
3 = Statement of Accomplishment or Project Portfolio
4 = Verified Certificate
5 = Credit
Engagement (Maximum score: 5.00 / Weight factor: 3)
The rating is based on the level of interaction with peers and staff using the following criteria:
1 = None
2 = Very little
3 = Fairly engaging
4 = Very engaging
5 = Positively buzzing
Workload (Maximum score: 5.00 / Weight factor: 3)
The rating is based on the number of hours required to complete a course in relation to the course value using the following criteria:
1 = Far too demanding
2 = Unreasonable
3 = Reasonable
4 = Good balance
5 = Great value for time
Practicality (Maximum score: 5.00 / Weight factor: 5)
The rating is based on how useful the course is for personal/professional development using the following criteria:
1 = Waste of time
2 = Pretty useless
3 = OK
4 = Pretty useful
5 = Life-changing
Overall Rating
Each measure was weighted by a weight factor from 1 to 5.
The overall rating is determined by the weighted average of all the scores.
